About Kimolos
Less than a kilometer of water separates Kimolos from Milos, and the crossing takes minutes. Navy Blue Luxury Yacht Transfers cover that channel on your departure rather than a posted timetable. The island gave its name to kimolia, the Greek word for chalk, through a cleaning clay traded since antiquity. Chorio holds the only town, built around a medieval kastro of 123 two-story houses whose outer walls formed the defense. Bentonite and pozzolana are still quarried here, and younger residents work the mines on either shore. Prassa, on the northeast coast, has coarse white sand and sea caves below the chapel. The channel is short enough to make Kimolos a morning.

Set out for Skiadi, the mushroom rock on the northwestern plateau, cut by wind into a narrow stem. The walk from the Profitis Ilias churches takes about half an hour.

Circle the outer ring of the kastro at Chorio, where families still live behind the old defensive wall. The inner core lies in ruins after a pirate raid in 1638.
