About Serifos
Rust-colored hillsides give Serifos away before the yacht reaches the bay. Iron came out of this island from 1870 until the mines closed in the 1960s, and the industrial fabric survives along the shore. Navy Blue Boat Transfers arrive at Livadi, the only port, roughly 23 miles from Milos. Chora stands about 200 meters above it on a rock, split into an upper and lower town around three squares. At Megalo Livadi a loading bridge still runs out over the water, with rails and ore wagons behind it. In 1916 miners struck here for the eight-hour day, the first such strike in Greece. From the sea, the mining coast opens first.
Things to Do in Serifos

Ascend the flagstone path from Livadi to Chora, a 2.6 kilometer route ending at the Venetian castle remains. The chapel of Agios Konstantinos crowns the ridge above.

Photograph the loading bridge at Megalo Livadi, where ore was tipped straight into waiting ships. The ruined administration building and its two palm trees sit back from the beach.

Look for the reddish sand on the southern beaches, colored by iron oxide grains in the silica. Most beaches here stay unorganized, with tavernas at Mega Livadi and Agios Sostis.
