About Syros
Syros governs the Cyclades and the South Aegean from Ermoupoli, which explains how the town looks. Refugees from Chios and Psara founded it during the revolution of the 1820s, and it became the leading port in Greece. Neoclassical facades, marble paving, and grand public buildings replace the whitewash of the smaller islands. Navy Blue Yacht Transfers put in at the same harbor that once handled the country's cargo. The Apollo Theatre opened in 1864, modeled on several Italian houses including La Scala. Ernst Ziller designed the town hall on Miaouli Square, built between 1876 and 1891. Ermoupoli receives yachts the way it once received freight.
